State guard commander Colonel Abdoulie Mboob has died, sources confirmed.
Colonel Mboob passed away today (25 May) after battling a short illness.
“His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, regrets to announce the sudden demise of Colonel Abdoulie Mboob, State Guard Commander at the State House. Colonel Mboob passed away this evening at a private clinic.
“The President extends his deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, GAF and to the entire nation.
“Colonel Mboob will be remembered for his dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty. May Allah grant him Jannahtul Firdawsi and his gentle soul rest in eternal peace,” a statement from State House said.
Until his demise, Colonel Mboob was the commanding officer of the State guard battalion, a unit of the Gambian army that protects the president.
He was among 12 senior military officers recently promoted from Lt colonel ranks to colonel.
Known for his military professionalism and intelligence, the late Mboob earned much praises among Gambians especially those he served with in the forces.
