A suspected armed robber has been allegedly shot dead by villagers in Ballanghar Kerr Ndery.

The armed robbers attacked a Mauritanian shop a few minutes after Iftar (the breaking of fasting) yesterday.

One of the attackers was caught and reportedly beaten mercilessly, while another was shot dead as he attempted to escape. His remains have been transferred to Farafenni Hospital.

“They [armed robbery] had opened fire, but it seemed their bullets had ran out, which is why they fled,” an eyewitness said in an audio clip.

In response, the Gambia Police Force said its officers have arrested some of the suspects and are appealing for public assistance in locating the remaining assailants.

“Investigations are ongoing, and more details will be shared as and when necessary,” the police said.
