Abubacarr Njie, a-45-year-old Gambian, man has been arrested with illegal drugs at the Banjul International Airport.

He has since been detained pending charges. The latest drug arrest comes two week after a Portuguese woman was also arrested with cocaine at the airport. 

Speaking to Gambiana on the arrest, spokesman for Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ousman Saidy-Bah: “Abubacarr Njie, a Gambian who was on his way from Switzerland, was arrested by DLEAG airport command with 60 blocks of suspected cannabis resin (hashish) which is concealed in black and blue luggage wrapped with cling fling nylon respectively.”

He said the suspect boarded Air Morocco via Spain, Casablanca and then Banjul International Airport.

Drugs like marijuana remain illegal in the Gambia and it is punishable by up to a fine of 100,000 dalasis or a prison term of 12 months or both under the laws of the country.
