Public school teachers today began a countrywide strike over unpaid covid allowances.

The Gambia Teachers Union said many of the teachers in regions 1, 2 and 3 have still not been paid their allowance.

“The National Executive Committee held another emergency executive meeting on Saturday 12th February 2022 and passed a resolution that: Teachers in all schools across the country should put their tools down until advised otherwise,” said Marie Antoinette Corr, General Secretary of Gambia Teachers Union.

The disruption has affected thousands of students and pupils across the country.
