An 18-year-old Gambian migrant has drowned in Italy days after arriving in the country from Libya. 

Aboubakar Darboe, who was one of the migrants rescued at sea, was said to have been swimming in Lake Como when the tragedy happened. 

He was from Farato in the Greater Banjul Area.

“Abubacar Darboe drowned yesterday afternoon in the stretch of Lario at the mouth of the Gerenzone, near the statue of San Nicolò, patron saint of Lecco and protector of sailors,” Ebrima Drammeh who is based in Italy told Gambiana.
