The emotional Shiekh Matarr Nyang, who files nomination with IEC today, said The Gambia is his parents saying his love for the country is “unmeasurable”.

“Bilahi Wollahi Talahi’ I will die for this country because now I have no father and no mother, and now only Gambia is my mother and my father,” Nyang told reporters.

“There are Gambians today who will accept to hang themselves and be slaughtered because of their love for the country, if you are looking for someone who loves the country from Koina to Kartong [look no further than me].

He stated that his principal target if he is elected president in December will be to reunite Gambians.

However his press conference took a dramatic turn after he berated reporters for questioning his love for the country.

The trained lawyer then challenged Gambian journalists to a 10 minute debate with him.

Mr Nyang’s bizarre actions towards the media sparked concerns about his fitness for president.
