Three unidentified bodies were recovered at the Jinack Crossing Point in the North Bank Region during a routine night patrol on Wednesday, authorities have confirmed.
According to the Gambia Immigration Department (GID), the bodies — comprising two men and one woman — were discovered by officers of the Border Patrol Unit (BPU) in collaboration with the Village Development Committee of Jinack Kajata.
Authorities suspect the victims were part of a migrant boat believed to have capsized off the coast while attempting to connect with a vessel at sea.
The bodies were later handed over to the Essau Police Station for further investigations and necessary action.
The Gambia Immigration Department expressed concern over the continued loss of lives linked to irregular migration and urged communities to support efforts aimed at discouraging dangerous clandestine journeys and protecting lives.
