TRRC lead counsel, Essa Faal, on Thursday lost his temper with the NIA’s most notorious torturer after he refused to answer questions while giving testimony.

Lamin Darboe  has been mentioned as one of the leading torturers at the infamous National Intelligence Agency by several victims of the Jammeh dictatorship.

“Shut up and answer the questions. No matter how you behave you must answer the questions,” an exasperated Essa Faal told Lamin Darboe.

“And please exercise discipline and respect the Commission. If you continue like this – I would ask the chair to hold [you] for contempt and send you to Mile 2 [prison],” Mr Faal warned.

He added: “Let him proceed and test the Commission and see what the result would be. The Commission can’t sit here and allow this gross indiscipline.”

After being lambasted, Mr Darboe appeared shocked and seemed to realise that there was a consequence for failing to cooperate with the Commission.

The former NIA agent is said to have participated in the arrests and torture of over 100 people. He denied the allegations.

The hearing continued.
