Two people have been arrested in Banjul for recycling dumped expired mayonnaise into cooking oil.

A statement from Banjul City Council said the alleged offenders were caught in the act after a tip-off from the public. 

“This came on a short notice to the council that there are people taking the expired mayonnaise from the dump site to recycle them into gallons of cooking oil for sales. Two people were caught and are under the police custody,” the statement said. 

“As a result, the council urges everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity as this can have health implications after consumption.”
