Opposition United Democratic Party has defended decision to inviting foreign media to cover its campiagn amid criticism from locals.

UDP recently boycotted the state broadcaster, GRTS, accusing the Independent Electoral Commission of foul play in schedule of air time for parties.

In a statement, UDP said: “it is attracting sub-regional and international attention. In recent weeks we have received many requests for interviews by foreign media and audiences with some development partners. This is a clear indication that the UDP is the next government in waiting.”

“Given the tight schedule, the party leader is, unfortunately, unable to answer positively to all the requests for interviews but will do so at the most convenient time! UDP is committed to flying the Gambian flag high and restoring a proper image of the country in and outside our borders,” the statement added.
