Sulayman Saho, the National Assembly for Central Badibou, has said the Supreme Court judgment against the United Democratic Party was “unfair”.

Speaking to Gambiana, Mr Saho said: “I expected the chief justice to allow due process of the law to take place” adding that “if the evidences are not sufficient enough or not substantial issues [raised] then he can rule against the petition.”

However, Mr Saho said he was surprised the way the Supreme Court made its ruling on the UDP petition without allowing the hearing to be done.

“I am not happy with the ruling and I was optimistic that if UDP will win in the court everybody will celebrate the justice system of the Gambia.

“If the party did not fulfill the requirement of the Supreme Court when filing they could have been given another chance to make it right or be charged.”

“However in my own analysis, the reason given is not convincing enough to strike out this important petition which is of concern and interest to the Gambian people,” he added.
