United Democratic Party has said scores of APRC supporters in Demfaye village have joined the party.

“Over 100 people in the village of Demfaye have today joined the United Democratic Party from APRC,” the party wrote on its Facebook page.

The party said the national organising secretary Mayor Talib Bensouda and his team visited the village as part of a countrywide tour.

The mass defection comes nine months to the December presidential elections, which is highly expected to be one of the hotly contested presidential elections in the history of The Gambia.

United Democratic Party, the country’s main opposition party, will face-off with President Adama Barrow, the party’s former flag bearer.

Meanwhile, the party also said: “earlier this morning, Mansakonko Area Council in partnership with TIKA, presented 25kg of rice, 10kg of sugar and 5 liters of oil to 100 disaster victims and vulnerable families in the Lower River Region.“
