United Democratic Party’s National Assembly member for Sandu has assured president-elect Adama Barrow of his support as he sent his heartfelt congratulatory message to him.

President Barrow won the December 4 election after sweeping almost all the 53 constituencies with 53% of the votes in a landslide victory leaving his closest contender and arch rival Ousainou Darboe trailing on 28%.

Darboe has disputed the election results citing “irregularities”.

However the party’s parliamentary representative Muhammed Mahanera has publicly recognised and congratulated president-elect Barrow. He is the first senior party official to do so.

“Dear Mr. President-Elect: Please accept my warm congratulations on your victory and my best wishes for your success as you prepare to take up the responsibilities and challenges of your high office.

“As you embark upon your new responsibilities, I wish to assure you my unflinching support in your development agenda in Sandu and for Gambia as a whole,” Mahanera said.

“Also, to concert our efforts in the cause of peace and the brotherhood of all peoples,” he added.
