The Unite Movement has rejected allegations linking its senior official and National Assembly Member for Latrikunda Sabiji, Yahya Menteng Sanyang, to alleged voter registration and birth certificate irregularities, describing the matter as politically motivated.
At a press conference held today at the movement’s bureau in Fajara, spokesperson Kemo Bojang said Hon. Sanyang was summoned to the Fajikunda Police Station on 18 April 2026 following a complaint, which he said was reportedly filed by members of the United Democratic Party (UDP).

Bojang said the MP fully cooperated with investigators and maintained that all individuals involved in the registration exercise were Gambian citizens of voting age, insisting that no wrongdoing had taken place.
He further explained that Sanyang was later recalled for additional questioning on 19 April after initially leaving the police station, but argued that no formal charges or case file were presented.
“At no point was evidence presented or charges communicated. This process raises serious concerns about due process and fairness,” Bojang said.
The movement insisted that Sanyang has no role or access to any institution responsible for issuing birth certificates or managing voter registration, describing the allegations as “baseless and inconsistent with established procedures.”
UNITE further accused political opponents of attempting to use law enforcement processes to undermine its growing political influence, while calling for equal treatment of all political actors under the law.
Bojang also referenced what he described as inconsistencies in how similar allegations involving other political actors are handled, urging authorities to apply the law without bias.
“UNITE will not be intimidated, and UNITE will not be silenced. We will continue to engage in the democratic process,” he added.
The movement warned against what it termed the politicisation of state institutions and called on authorities to ensure transparency and professionalism in handling the matter in The Gambia.
Police have not yet publicly confirmed whether charges have been filed or whether the investigation is ongoing.
