A woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her lover at the Independence Stadium Friendship hostel in Bakau.

Police were called to the hotel following a row that led to the brutal killing.

The reason for the row that led to the killing is yet to be established.

And the identities of the couple are not yet made public.

Police this morning took the suspect into custody, as they drove off the lifeless body of the man to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul for autopsy.

Speaking exclusively to Gambiana, police spokeswoman, Cadet ASP Binta Njie, said: “It is said that they were in a relationship. No, they were not married.”

The alleged killing comes barely less than two weeks after the brutal killing of a 62-year-old woman in Fajara, Bakau.

Two suspects were arrested over the killing and are awaiting a court trial as police continued with their investigation.

The Gambia has seen a surge in killings since former President Yahya Jammeh was removed from power after losing the 2016 election.

President Barrow’s government has  placed a moratorium on death penalty.
