The chairman of the Brikama Area Council, Yankuba Darboe, has welcomed Lawyer Ousainou Darboe’s announcement on Wednesday of his intention to run in the 2026 presidential election, a move seen as a step toward easing internal leadership tensions within the party.

The party has recently faced leadership dispute, allegedly fueled by supporters of Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda, who have been calling for the highly respected politician and statesman, Lawyer Darboe, to step aside.

However, Yankuba Darboe rejected such calla, described it a plot that must be resisted.

In a surprise but widely welcomed move by party supporters, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe announced on Wednesday his intention to seek the presidency in 2026.

Reacting to the announcement, Yankuba Darboe said: “Our Baba has spoken, and he is our candidate! May Allah grant us victory in 2026.”
