The Member of Parliament for Latrikunda Sabiji, Yaya Menteng Sanyang, has stated that he has not been charged with any offence, insisting that he has not committed any crime in The Gambia.
His remarks come amid reports linking him to an alleged birth certificate fraud case being investigated by police in Fajikunda.
Sanyang maintained that he remains confident despite the ongoing attention surrounding the matter, saying he is “more resolute and determined now than before.”
“I am not charged with any crime because I did not commit any crime,” he said.
The lawmaker’s statement is his first public reaction since reports emerged that he had been held by police for questioning.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming any charges or providing details on the status of the investigation.
The development has drawn political reactions and public debate, with some calling for clarity from law enforcement on whether the MP has been formally charged or released
