Twelve people have contracted coronavirus as The Gambia heads into a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The median age of the new Covid-19 cases is 26 (range: 1 – 55 years),” the Ministry of Health said.

About 25 Gambians who recently returned from Mauritania have been taken into mandatory quarantine after a member of their travelling party tested positive for coronavirus.

Despite the recent spike in active cases almost all coronavirus restrictions have been relaxed as political rallies continued to be held across the country with no social distancing and wearing of face masks.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country is 3,696 with 121 deaths.
