Six military personnel who returned from five years of exile with former president Yahya Jammeh in Equatorial Guinea have been granted bail amid police investigation.

The soldiers returned last December after the re-election of President Adama Barrow. 

They include Lt colonel Wandifa Barrow, Lt colonel Amadou Joof, Lt Kaddy Colley, Ssgt Lamin B Jammeh, Sgt Lamin Nyassi and Sgt Landing Jarju.

The men, some of whom have been implicated in human rights abuses during the Jammeh regime, were detained by police. 

“They are all released from police today and they are to report back this morning at 11 at the crime management coordination office for further engagement,” Ebrima G Sankareh, government spokesman said. 

Mr Sankareh added that: “Four civilians Awa Jammeh, Mariatou Jammeh, Almamy Kujabi, Arabiatou Camara and two children were released earlier.”
