Gambian President Adama Barrow has attacked local-based media platforms, Kerr Fatou and Menbekering.
Speaking at a rally in Bansang, he said: “I want to say if there was no democracy in the country, Kerr Fatou platform wouldn’t have existed in the country. if there was no democracy in the country, Mengbekering radio station wouldn’t have been allowed in the country. If there was no democracy in the country, the radios criticising wouldn’t have criticised.”
“I want to say we have given them all chances, but breaking the law and making filthy comments will not be accepted anymore. The country cannnot exist,” he added.
However, the two media houses issued a statement to condemn Barrow’s attack on them, describing it as “attack on freedom of speech and threat to their safety”.
