President Adama Barrow has bid farewell to outgoing Chinese Ambassador Liu Jin, praising his contribution to strengthening relations between The Gambia and China during his four-year diplomatic tour.

President Barrow received Ambassador Jin at State House in Banjul on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during a farewell visit following the completion of the ambassador’s tour of duty.

The President thanked Ambassador Jin for what he described as his achievements during his tenure, highlighting several Chinese-supported development projects in The Gambia.

Among them was the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, which President Barrow said now accommodates more than 4,000 delegates and provides world-class facilities.

He also pointed to roads and bridges constructed in the Upper River Region, saying the projects had improved mobility and access between communities.

“These transformed mobility and access, connecting the North and South of the URR,” President Barrow said.

Ambassador Jin thanked the Gambian government and people for the hospitality and support extended to him and his team during his four years in the country.

He also expressed appreciation for the environment provided for the Chinese Embassy to carry out its diplomatic duties.

The outgoing ambassador assured President Barrow of Beijing’s continued support for new development projects in The Gambia.

During his tenure, Ambassador Jin worked to strengthen bilateral relations through cooperation in various sectors, including capacity building and people-to-people exchanges.

He said his tenure had been marked by important milestones and expressed optimism that relations between the two countries would reach new heights under his successor.

In recognition of his contribution, President Barrow invited Ambassador Jin to serve as an honorary Ambassador of The Gambia.

The President also asked him to convey assurances of The Gambia’s strategic partnership with China to President Xi Jinping.

Barrow extended his best wishes to Ambassador Jin as he prepares to leave the country.
