President Adama Barrow has launched a fresh attack on opposition parties, describing their leaders as “job seekers” and warning Gambians that electing them into office would leave the country with lasting regrets.

Speaking at a mega rally organised by First Lady Fatoumatta Bah Barrow in Kombo Jambur, the President questioned the credibility of the growing number of political parties ahead of the December presidential election, saying many lacked the qualities of serious political organisations.

Barrow argued that several opposition leaders were motivated by personal ambition rather than a genuine desire to serve the country, urging voters to reject them at the ballot box.

“These party leaders are job seekers, and if you vote them into power, you will regret it,” he told supporters.

The President also ridiculed the increasing number of political parties, saying there were so many that he could not even remember some of their names.

According to Barrow, many of the groups were political parties in name only and should instead be regarded as “get-together groups” with no clear vision or national agenda.

His remarks come as political parties step up campaigning ahead of the December 2026 presidential election, which is expected to be one of the country’s most competitive contests since the return to democratic rule.

Barrow used the rally to rally support for the National People’s Party (NPP), insisting that his administration’s development record sets it apart from its opponents.

He urged Gambians to back the NPP for another term, arguing that continuity in leadership would better serve the country’s development than entrusting power to what he portrayed as inexperienced and fragmented political groups.
