The Gambian President Adama Barrow has called on the opposition party leaders and their followers to join him in developing the country, as he celebrated his peace award.
Speaking at the celebration at Talinding over the weekend, Barrow returned gratitude to Gambians for the award while assuring his fellow country people “never to let them down” in life.
“I am calling on everyone whether you are in government or in the opposition to come and join hands to develop this country,” he said.
“In order to develop this country, we must all join President Barrow in developing this country. All the developments I am doing are for the country. And I am assuring you all that I will do more to make you happier.
“Heavy handedness can’t develop a country, too much talking will not develop a country, and badmouthing and violence can’t develop a country. Only hard work and unity develops a country,” he added.
President Barrow was awarded the African Peace award in Mauritania last month.
Barrow was recognised for his efforts in “promoting peace and human dignity” in African.
The African Prize for Promoting Peace is a Mauritanian initiative established in 2020 in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, in the United Arab Emirates and has been won by former presidents of Niger and Nigeria.
