President Adama Barrow

The National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Minister of Fisheries and Water Resources, Musa Drammeh, has dismissed opposition claims that President Adama Barrow will not seek another term in office, describing such assertions as false and misleading.

Speaking on the issue, Drammeh said the opposition is attempting to create confusion among Gambians after failing to present convincing alternatives ahead of the next election.

“They have nothing to say now and are claiming that President Adama Barrow will not seek a third term,” he said.

“But as National President of the NPP, I can confirm that we have selected our flagbearer, and that flagbearer is President Adama Barrow.”

Drammeh accused opposition parties of spreading what he termed fabricated narratives aimed at undermining the ruling party and eroding public confidence.

“All what the opposition are saying are false and fabricated,” he stated.

He stressed that the NPP remains united behind President Barrow’s leadership and development agenda, noting that the party’s decision reflects internal consensus and confidence in continuity.

According to Drammeh, the ruling party is focused on governance and national development rather than political speculation.

“The NPP is not distracted by rumours. Our priority is stability, development, and delivering for the Gambian people,” he said.
The remarks come amid increasing political debate as parties position themselves ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

Speculation over President Barrow’s intentions has intensified in recent months, with opposition figures questioning whether he would seek another term.

However, Drammeh’s statement appears to settle the matter within the NPP, clearly signalling that the party will rally behind President Barrow as its candidate.

He urged party supporters to remain united and engaged, assuring them that the NPP will continue to campaign on its record in governance, economic growth, and national stability.

President Barrow has not personally commented on the matter, but the NPP leadership insists the party’s position is clear and final.
