President Adama Barrow has launched the construction of the Sinchu Alhagie to Pateh Sam feeder road, a 3.2-kilometre stretch under the Gambia Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural Value Chain Development (GIRAV) Project.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security in collaboration with the World Bank, is part of a larger 204.7-kilometre feeder road programme designed to enhance rural connectivity and boost agricultural productivity across the country.

At the foundation-laying ceremony, President Barrow was joined by senior government officials, development partners, and local leaders, who hailed the project as a milestone for Niamina East.

Hon. Dawda Jeng, the constituency MP, described the moment as historic, noting that the road is vital for local farmers and residents.

“This road is crucial for connecting our villages to markets. The president promised its construction during my campaign, and today we see that promise being fulfilled,” he said.

Once completed, the road is expected to improve transportation of farm produce, ease travel within the area, and enhance access to essential services for local communities.

The Sinchu Alhagie–Pateh Sam project is one of several feeder roads under the GIRAV initiative, which aims to strengthen rural economies, link farming areas to economic centres, and support sustainable development across The Gambia.
