President Adama Barrow has replaced key position holders including the vice president portfolio in his administration in the new cabinet.

Former higher education minister Alieu Badra Joof replaced Dr Isatou Touray as vice president and trade minister Seedy Keita takes up Mambury Njie’s place as finance and economic affairs minister.

Meanwhile, former state house commander under Jammeh Serign Modou Njie replaces Shiekh Omar Faye and lands minister Musa Drammeh has been transferred to the ministerial position of petroleum and energy.

Announcing the new cabinet, government spokesman Ebrima G Sankareh said: “The public hereby inform that his excellency Adama Barrow, president of the republic of The Gambia acting on section 71 subsection [1] 4b of the constitution of the republic of The Gambia hereby relief her excellency, the vice president and all ministers in the cabinet from their positions with immediate effect. 

“His Excellency, the President of the nation wishes them best in their future endeavours.

“The public is further informed that His Excellency President Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia acting on section 70 subsection 3 and section 71 subsection 3 of the Constitution of The Gambia, is pleased to make the following appointments of his cabinet with effect from Wednesday 4th of May, 2022.”

“One vice president Mr Alieu Badra Joof, attorney general and minister of justice, Dawda A Jallow, minister of foreign affairs international cooperation and Gambians abroad Dr Mamadou Tangara, minister finance and economic affairs, Seedy Keita, minister of defence Serign Modou Njie, minister of interior Siaka Sonko, minister of tourism and culture Hamat NK Bah, minister of lands and regional government and religious affairs, Abbas Sanyang, minister of agriculture Demba Sabally, minister of transport, works and infrastructure Ebrima Sillah, minister of health Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, minister of basic and secondary education Claudiana Cole, minister of gender, children and social welfare Fatou Kinteh, minister of petroleum and energy Abdoulie Jobe, minister of fisheries and water resources Musa S Drammeh, minister of higher, science and technology Professor Pierre Gomez, minister of environment, climate change and natural resources Miss Rohey John Manjang, minister of youths and sports, Bakary Badjie,” he added.
