President Adama Barrow

President Adama Barrow has accused opposition leader Ousainou Darboe of having questionable interest in the case involving Ousainou Bojang, saying “people are suspicious that his hands are not clean.”

The president made the remarks in response to Darboe’s criticism of the government’s decision to rearrest the suspect in the Sukuta-Jabang shooting case, despite a High Court acquittal.

Lawyer Darboe had earlier condemned the government’s actions, describing the rearrest as wrong and praising the trial judge and defence lawyers.

He also explained that he did not comment during the trial because his party had been accused of involvement in the case.

However, President Barrow questioned Darboe’s stance, suggesting his intervention after the verdict raised concerns.

“The interest he has in this case, people are suspicious that his hands are not clean,” the President Barrow said.

He added that Darboe had not addressed the nation in previous cases where individuals were arrested and released, but chose to do so in this instance.

He also referenced past political tensions, implying that Darboe’s actions were influenced by political considerations.
