The Biden administration plans as early as this week to revoke Trump’s controversial sanctions on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and a top deputy.

The expected move is likely to ease a state of open hostility by the U.S. government toward the Hague-based international tribunal, reports Foreign Policy.

Last September, Trump signed an executive order levying sanctions on ICC officials including its chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda over its efforts to investigate possible war crimes by American personnel, in Afghanistan and Israeli security forces in the Palestinian territories.

Trump was condemned for using measures usually reserved for dictators and terrorists against the staff of the International Criminal Court.

Former prosecutor Ms Bensouda saw her bank accounts frozen and the assets of relatives temporarily blocked after the Trump administration announced sanctions.
