The body of former Vice President Dr Alieu Badara Joof has today arrived in The Gambia from India.

State ministers and senior government officials and some members of the National Assembly are currently at the Banjul International Airport to receive the body. 

Dr Joof died at the age of 66 on Wednesday in the Indian capital New Delhi where he was receiving treatment for an unknown illness. 

He becomes the second Gambian vice president to die in office. 

Thousands of Gambians from all walks of life have been paying their respect to the late VP Joof. He has been described as a competent, committed and level-headed vice president.
