Brikama Area Council will tomorrow (7 April) distribute 650 bags of rice to people in Foni affected by the fighting in Casamance.

At least ten thousand people among them pregnant women, lactating mothers and children are known to have been displaced by the conflict.

Spokesman for Brikama Area Council Lamin Singhateh said: “the council will distribute 650 bags of 25kg rice to the affected population in the five districts of Foni.”

According to Mr Singhateh, the donation is being made as part of efforts to help the affected people with essential food supplies.

Meanwhile, scores of Foni residents have been calling for the relocation of Senegalese soldiers serving with the Ecowas peacekeeping mission in the region.

Parliamentary candidates contesting in April 9 election have also shared their opinions about the deployment of the Senegalese forces in the region. They promised to advocate in parliament for their withdrawal from Foni
