The Constitutional Review Commission has begun a countrywide distribution of translated version of the draft constitution in audio and video in Mandinka, Fula, Wollof, Jola, Manjago, Serere, Sarahule and Aku languages.

There is also a Braille version of the Draft Constitution for the visually impaired.

It comes ahead of parliamentary debates over the draft constitution this month which will follow a nationwide referendum next year.

Schools were also supplied with hardcopies of the draft constitution.

The distribution tour began in North Bank Region where the distributor team met chiefs, officials of community radios, area councillors and the governor.

“Translation of the Draft Constitution is a fulfilment of the promise the CRC made to Gambians during the public consultations to have the Draft Constitution translated into the local languages to enhance citizens’ understanding and awareness of the content of the Draft Constitution,” the constitutional review commission’s team on tour said.

The CRC urged the Gambian public to access these translated audio recordings of the Draft Constitution in eight languages to reinforce their understanding of this legal document.
