Ousainou Darboe, leader of the United Democratic Party, has warned supporters who are engaged in personal attacks against other party members on social media to stop, adding that those actions are against the party’s principles.

Speaking to UDP members in Seattle during a fundraising event that raised more than 6 million dalasis, he tasked UDP young men and women to start reaching out to Gambians and ensure their objective of unseating President Barrow is fulfilled in 2026.

“We are all saying that we will win the 2026 election, but we cannot win the presidential election, if we pull one another down within the party. If we are accusing each other and tarnishing each other’s image on things that aren’t true. If we continue this trend, we will not achieve our objective. We cannot shoot ourselves in the foot.

“Those UDP members who are active on social media should ensure that we amplify the party’s principle and programmes but you should not be agents for our opponents who are fed with information against our members believing that you are doing good to the nation, not knowing that you are doing more harm to the nation and the United Democratic Party,” Darboe told the gathering.

“Therefore, I want to tell those people to desist from what they are doing if they are true members of the United Democratic Party. UDP is a united party and we don’t know the division in the party.

“UDP is known for its stand to unity and human rights but not a party that stands for disunity and causing harm to people. Any member of the United Democratic Party has the right to seek election for a position, but that shouldn’t warrant you to do anything that is against principles of the party or do things to others against their wish,” he added.
