The Gambia’s former defence minister Sheikh Omar Faye has presented his credence to the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani in Nouakchott.

Mr Faye was replaced by Serign Modou Njie as defence minister earlier this year when President Barrow announced his post-election cabinet reshuffle.

According to the foreign ministry, Faye conveyed fraternal greetings from President Adama Barrow to his Mauritanian counterpart.

He went on to convey the goodwill and determination to further strengthen the historic ties that exist between the two countries and peoples.

For his part, President Ghazouani welcomed, and congratulated Ambassador Faye on his appointment as The Gambia’s Ambassador to Mauritania which he called his second home, and assured him of his full support during his tenure in Mauritania.
