Residents of Farato who are involved in a land dispute with real estate dealers have offered a compromise deal in order to avoid conflict.

Despite winning a high court case over the land, the residents say they are willing to make compromise.

The compromising residents include the Camara Kunda family, Saidy Kunda family, Bah Kunda family, Sabally Kunda family, Gibba Kunda family, Ceesay Kunda family, and Sonko Kunda family.

Speaking to reporters Karamba Sabally, an elder of Kabilo, blamed government officials of double-standards and for making it difficult to get their plots of land back despite the high court ruling in their favours.

“We don’t want problem, all we need is justice in this issue because despite winning the case in court we cannot get our land,” Karamo Saidy.

“We cleared the land and it was given to our fathers by the elders of Jambur village and this is in the courts rulings because Farato resides in Jambur’s land.

“The land was a thick forest and we cleared it to do farming. For more than five years after clearing no machinery was able to get into the forest to clear the field and this was in the 1980s,” Alieu Bah added.

“But to shorten the conversation, what we want now is to get back the remaining plots of the unoccupied land.

“We don’t want to take land areas bought by the people. We want the government to please do this for us for peaceful [settlement]. We don’t want any conflict.

“We will all leave behind all these lands and high storey buildings one day, therefore, we don’t want to trouble those who have already built their houses on the lands, but what we want is to get back the remaining [unbuilt] plot of lands,” Bah said.

“Now where you settled with your family we don’t demand that place, we can compromise on that. But if what you’ve bought from these people and you have not built anything on it, we will take that back,”Ousman Jawo added.
