Former speaker of the National Assembly   Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay has called on Gambians to unite in the fight to end cyber crimes including online harassment and blackmail of women.

Ms Jahumpa-Ceesay was speaking to hundreds of women and men on Sunday during a Refela-Gambia chapter’s nationwide annual general meeting and tour, held at Kotu.

Her call comes amid a spike in cybercrime and bullying against Gambians particularly women in the public eye.

Ms Jahumpa-Ceesay said: “There is something going on and they are brutalising women on the media and the internet.

“Let’s stand up together. There is a movement that’s working to end cybercrimes against women in The Gambia and you must join that movement.”

“And we must take this matter to parliament and we don’t even need a female MP to take this private member bill to parliament but it has to be done by a male MP because we are their mothers. Respect women, please respect women,” she added.
