The Gambia Taekwondo sparring team has made big strides in the Dakar Taekwondo championship after emerging third position and with the best discipline team.

The sparing team comprising 10 athletes participated in a locally organised competition held in Karang where the boys won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

“We were invited to participate in the Dakar open competition which was the one I was really pleased with because that Dakar open max competition was an Olympic level category.

“And I prepared about ten athletes, but eventually, we were able to go with eight athletes and three coaches,” Master Baba Sarr, President of The Gambia Taekwondo Masters Association said.

“We fought in different categories but fortunately for us we were able to win third place in an Olympic level category minus 80.

“And it was their first time to use electronics. They tried their best and were able to win the trophy for the third place and won the trophy for the best discipline team,” he added.
