Bacary Sanyang has been approved by Gambian lawmakers to be the country’s new ombudsman.

Mr Sanyang’s appointment was first tabled in parliament for approval, but lawmakers held back on his appointment as they requested him to resign from his governorship position.

And he later resigned as the governor of West Coast Region.

Meanwhile, he is the second pick of Gambia’s President Adama Barrow after lawmakers unanimously rejected the appointment of Babucarr A Suwareh.

During Sanyang’s appointment endorsement, majority leader of the house, Kebba K. Barrow, said “I raise the motion for consideration and approval of the report of the Public Appointment Standing Committee on the confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Bacary Sanyang as ombudsman accordance with section 164(1) of the 1997 constitution.”
