The Gambia has been hit by acute shortage of passports causing worries for many Gambian travellers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked

Gambian embassies and consulates around the world to extend expired Gambian passports of stranded travellers.

In a statement issued today (20 July) the ministry said it is informing “the Gambian Diaspora that due to the acute shortage of ordinary passport books, the Republic of The Gambia through the Ministry of Interior has authorised our Diplomatic Missions abroad to extend expired Gambian passports of affected holders.”

The ministry did not give any reason for the passport shortage.

However, Gambiana has contacted the Immigration Department for comment.
