Gambia has lost its sovereignty under the leadership of President Adama Barrow, an opposition politician has claimed.

Musa Yali Batchilly, leader of Gambia Action Party, said the president has mortgaged the country’s treasured sovereignty to Senegal.

Mr Batchilly said Senegal, a neighbouring country, now runs The Gambia.

He urged President Barrow to take back control and emulate former President Jammeh in protecting the integrity of The Gambia.

“Let’s talk about [Yahya] Jammeh’s bad and good deeds but lets us not only be talking about his bad deeds only.

“I respect [Yahya] Jammeh and I am not APRC and why I respect Jammeh is that he protected our sovereignty, he protected our sovereignty to the core that’s why I respect him,” he said.

He added: “Our sovereignty has gone and I am urging Gambians to hold their voter cards and restore the sovereignty of the nation.

“President Barrow if you want to win next election whether you know it or not: the country’s sovereignty has gone. Try and ensure you bring back our sovereignty.”

“There are some leaders [in the] outside world who had done worse than President Jammeh – Jammeh had done some developments and good things.

“He had done some mistakes but why are we not talking about his developments? Everyone has done good and bad deeds,” Mr Batchilly said.
