The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) on Friday commissioned eight tractor trailers for handling the operation and transportation of containers at the ports

Acting Director of Technical Services at the GPA, Ousainou Jobe, said the tractor trailers will help the ports realise the challenges it faces and plays its vital role in the communities.

“Gambia Ports Authority is the only port in the country. Demands are very high and the GPA is doing its best to render better services to customers,” he said.

Mr Jobe said the port can only function well with the necessary equipment and infrastructure.

GPA Deputy Director of Traffic Operation and Logistics, Lamin Touray, said the port is ready to face all challenges for the increase in its traffic.

He thanked the management of GPA for responding to their operational needs adding that the port is expecting more machines in June 2020.

GPA Deputy Director of Technical Services, Anthony Kujabie, said the machines are expensive equipment and that his personnel will abide by the manufacturers recommendations to ensure that the trailers serve the port for a long period of time.

The tractor trailers worth D51 million were bought from Kalmar West Africa which offers a wide range of cargo handling solutions and services to ports, terminals, distribution centers and industries.
