The Gambia’s Ministry of Health has temporary suspended the sale of paracetamol syrup amid outbreak of acute kidney disease in children.

The kidney disease has killed 28 children so far out of 35 cases reported. 

The disease is prevalence in Western 1, Western 2 and Central River Region.

Dr Mustapha Bittaye, director of health service at the Ministry of Health, said: “We want all syrup paracetamol be suspended till further notice. An alternate of crossing [sic] paracetamol tablets is encouraged.”

Dr Bittaye also urged health officials to encourage hand washing in all clinics.
