Dozens of Taekwondo clubs in The Gambia will gather for a three-day training camp in Abuko in a bid to promote the sport and nurture practising athletes.

The training comes under the dynamic leadership of Master Baba Sarr, president of the Gambia Taekwondo Masters Association, who signed a memorandum of understanding with Dakar-based Max Solution.

“As you know Taekwondo is an Olympic sport so if we want to prepare our athletes they have to be acquainted with the new rules. That prompted me to have an MOU with Max solution in Dakar to make sure I help promote Taekwondo in The Gambia.

“So, they will be giving us training support in sparring and training support for preparing athletes for international competition. And also, they will give us support I electronics equipment to be able to use in The Gambia,” Mr Sarr said.

According to him, Taekwondo has been very dormant for years; adding “we deem it necessary for us to promote Taekwondo again because we need to have our own nurtured stars to compete internationally. That being the case we came together to form the Taekwondo master’s association in November.”
