The government of the Gambia
has declared Tuesday 4th June and Wednesday 5th June as public holidays throughout the Gambia in observance of the Muslim feast of Eid-ul-Fitr.

A press release from the Office of the President states:

“The public is hereby informed that His Excellency, Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of the Gambia is pleased to declare Tuesday 4th June and Wednesday 5th June as Public Holidays throughout The Gambia in observance of the Muslim feast of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“Eid is a moment of worship and an opportunity to spend more time with friends and families. Thus, the president, on behalf of the First Family, wishes all Muslims a happy and blessed celebrations.”

On Monday afternoon the Supreme Islamic Council in Saudi Arabia reported the sighting of the moon to symbolise the end of Ramadan and the starts of the new month of Shawaal.
