Gambian rising star Musa Njie has officially signed a five-year contract with Swedish club Östers IF, marking a major step in the young winger’s promising career.

The 18-year-old, formerly of BST Galaxy, caught the attention of Öster after an impressive season in which he was crowned Player of the Season.

Musa Njie first linked up with the Swedish side during a trial spell last summer, training with both the U19 and senior squads. He made a strong impression in a League Cup match against Landskrona BoIS, scoring early and showcasing his attacking flair.

Öster’s Sporting Director Ola Larsson expressed strong confidence in the Gambian youngster.

“We have scouted Musa for a long time. Beyond his trial here and the video footage, Leo Neuman even travelled to Gambia to watch him. His speed and one-on-one ability will be a big asset for us. He has mainly played as a winger but can also operate centrally,” Larsson said.

Musa Njie has spent the past week in Växjö and is set to feature in the club’s friendly match against Karlskron. Speaking after signing his long-term contract, an emotional Njie described the move as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

“This is a dream come true. It is a great pleasure and honour to come to Sweden and to Öster. I was impressed with the club when I was here in the summer, and everyone treated me very well. I am looking forward to the new season and can’t wait to play in front of the Öster supporters,” he said.
