Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) has announced plans to stage a peaceful anti-corruption protest on Tuesday 22 July, calling for urgent government action and accountability.
The protest is scheduled to take place at Westfield, in the Kanifing Municipality, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm.
Organisers say a formal request for a police permit has been submitted in accordance with the country’s constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
In a statement released, GALA accused state institutions of failing to act on a growing number of high-profile corruption cases and audit findings, despite years of public outcry and official investigations.
“Despite numerous audit reports, parliamentary inquiries, and whistleblower accounts, accountability remains elusive,” Omar Saibo Camara, spokesperson for GALA said.
“This protest is a national call to conscience,” he added.
The group cited a long list of unresolved scandals, including the 2025 Russian Oil Scandal Report, the National Audit Office’s findings from 2017 to 2020, and confirmed allegations of mismanagement at the Gambia Tourism Board in 2023.
It also pointed to the 2021 passport scandal and audit reports on the use of COVID-19 funds, all of which, GALA says, have yet to result in meaningful accountability.
