The Gambia General Legal Council has cautioned legal practioners commenting on ongoing cases before the courts, describing it as “breach of professional code of conduct”. 

In a joint statement president of The Gambia Bar Association, Salieu Taal and president of Law Society Banjul, L.K Mbodge stated:”It has come to the attention of the chairman of the General Leagl Council that of recent a number of legal practitioners have been making public comments in the media about ongoing cases.

“As you aware there is a prohibition against such practice. Public comments on matters that are sub-judice also constitutes a breach of code of conduct and professional ethics of the legal profession. 

“Legal practitioners should accordingly desist from such conduct.”
