The leadership of the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has been enrolled and issued with the new National Identity Card (GAM ID) ahead of the nationwide rollout of the country’s new digital identity system.

The enrolment, which took place at the Immigration Headquarters in Banjul, covered members of the GID’s Core Command and Senior Management.

The GAM ID system, launched by the Government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Interior in partnership with Margins ID Group, is designed to provide a secure, digitally enabled and ICAO-compliant identity management system for both Gambian citizens and foreign residents.

According to the GID, enrolling its senior leadership marks an important milestone in preparations for the nationwide implementation of the new identification system.

The department said it remains committed to delivering secure, efficient, transparent and citizen-centred identity management services across the country.
