Gambia sprinter Gina Bass has missed out on winning a silverware at the Commonwealth Games after finishing outside the medal category of the women’s 200m finals.

Bass finished 5th with 23:13s in the women’s 200m finals won by legendary Jamaican runner and Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah.

“Congratulations, Gina. You did very well. You became one of the finalists,  and you ran very well. This is the beginning of your career path to success,” Gambia National Olympic Committee president Ms Beatrice Allen said after the race.

Bass will now leave Birmingham, U.K. for Turkey to represent The Gambia at Islamic Games which starts this week.

The games will take place in the Turkish city of Konya.
