The Gambia has officially opened new state-of-the-art immigration border posts in Giboro, Kerr Ali, and Amdalia, marking a major milestone in national security and migration management.

The inauguration at Giboro in the West Coast Region, drew senior government officials, representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), officials from the Government of Japan, heads of security agencies, traditional leaders, and local residents.

Equipped with modern facilities, the new posts are designed to strengthen the work of Immigration, Customs, and other security agencies stationed at the borders.

The Ministry of Interior said the upgrades form part of broader border governance reforms aimed at curbing trans-border crime, supporting lawful trade, and ensuring smooth travel across the country.

Officials emphasized that well-managed borders are crucial for national development and regional stability, and called on deployed officers to perform their duties with professionalism, diligence, and respect for human rights.

The projects were delivered through collaboration between the Gambian government, IOM, and Japan, underscoring the country’s commitment to international cooperation and modern migration management.

The Giboro, Kerr Ali, and Amdalia posts are expected to set new standards for border operations in The Gambia, providing improved services to travelers, traders, and local communities while reinforcing security across the nation.
