The government’s Department of Physical Planning and Housing will embark on mass demolition of properties blocking waterways in the country.

The move comes nearly two weeks after devastating floods destroyed houses and properties in several areas of the country.

Minister of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs Sheriff Abba Sanyang made the announcement yesterday during a meeting with Alkalolus and chiefs of Kombo South.

He said his ministry will in due course develop and introduce a standardised land transfer form and stamp for all Alkalolus in the country.

He urged local authorities to desist from documenting illegal sale of land in government layouts and reserves as well as the duplicitous documentation of properties.

Buba Sanyang, permanent secretary at the ministry, urged Alkalolus against documenting disputed lands and those that are subject to court proceedings and desist from levying charges on processing land transfers.

According to him, the practice is illegal and ought to stop, adding the ministry will not hesitate to reprimand any Alkalo found to be involved in dubious land transactions.
